Many people drive here specifically to experience crabbing, while others are drawn by the ninety-mile long beach, pristine islands, and abundant wildlife. The boardwalk winds through native coastal shrubs, with tree cover providing ample shade, making the walk pleasant and not too hot. At the mid-point observation deck, the clear demarcation where the lake meets the sea is visible, a collision of dynamic and static scenery that offers a particularly soothing visual experience. Seabirds often skim the water's surface, and if you're lucky, you might even spot seals popping their heads out of the water in the distance. If you have a four-wheel drive vehicle, you can legally drive onto the beach after the tide recedes, cruising slowly along the coastline with the sea breeze on your face and an endless view. It's a uniquely stress-relieving activity here. Sunset is when the beach is at its most beautiful, with golden light covering the entire stretch of sand and the ocean shimmering softly. Basic equipment only requires a special round crab net, smelly bait like chicken frames or necks, a bucket, non-slip gloves, and tongs for handling the caught crabs.

The success of crabbing largely depends on the tides. One to two hours before high tide and around sunset are prime times, as crabs are actively foraging and more likely to take the bait. For beginners, the shallow waters along the Reeve Landing Jetty are ideal due to calm waters, no undercurrents, and high safety, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists.

 

 
Simple operating procedure
The operation is very simple: firmly secure the chicken frame in the center of the crab net to prevent the bait from being pulled away by crabs, then gently cast the net into the shallow water, letting it lie flat on the bottom and wait.
Timing is key; checking the net every five to ten minutes is ideal. Waiting too short means crabs haven't gathered yet, while waiting too long allows the bait to be completely eaten, causing the crab群 to disperse. Pulling up the net is always full of surprises; you'll often see several plump crabs gathered around the bait, and the sense of accomplishment is particularly satisfying.
By mastering the tides and netting rhythm, you can quickly fill a bucket. Children waiting by the shore for the net to be pulled up are fully engaged throughout, making it a fantastic parent-child activity.
