Sydney's Hidden Gems | The "Floating Forest" Reclaimed by Nature
Share
The SS Ayrfield, a shipwreck in Wentworth Point, Sydney, is affectionately known as the "Floating Forest."

This ship, once a merchant vessel and even a participant in wars, was later abandoned in these waters. Now, its hull is rusted beyond recognition, but its top is overgrown with lush, green mangrove trees. The sight of decaying steel and thriving trees, two completely opposite elements, coexisting in such harmony is quite striking.
It's as if nature has reclaimed the ship—what humanity discards, the Earth reclaims and transforms into something new. There are actually several other shipwrecks nearby, but only this one has sprouted such an impressive forest, completely covering the entire vessel.

Even ruins can bloom, and discarded things can become beautiful. It sits there, old and quiet in the water, yet it exudes a strange vitality.
It's very convenient to get there from downtown Sydney; half a day is enough for a visit. Address: 29 Bennelong Pkwy, Wentworth Point NSW 2127

No need for complicated itineraries; just stand by the water and you'll realize: things that are decaying aren't necessarily at their end.
